Caley Thistle cup dream is over

Inverness Caledonian Thistle      0

Dundee                1

Allan (47)

DUNDEE won their first ever game in Inverness after 12 attempts as Scott Allan’s goal proved to be the difference in the Scottish Cup fourth round replay.

Inverness had a golden chance in the first two minutes to take the lead when Scott Allan gave the ball away allowing George Oakley a shot on goal but he blasted wide.

Minutes later Oakley chanced his luck from 20 yards with a thunderous low drive flashed wide of the post in a bright start for the Championship side.

Dundee responded well to early pressure when Kerr Waddell then launched a 50 yard pass which found Moussa who controlled the ball in the penalty box to fire at goal forcing another save from Ridgers.

Caley Thistle responded with Liam Polworth sending a ball through to Oakley who from eight yards out was only denied a shot on goal by a sliding tackle by Jack Hendry..

Aaron Doran screamed for a penalty on the stroke of half time when he claimed he was brought down by Jack Hendry. But the referee ruled he was guilty of simulation and showed him the yellow card to the fury of manager John Robertson.

But the deadlock was broken just two minutes into the second half when Allan charged down field and played a neat one two with Leitch-Smith at the edge of the box before he fired a powerful low drive into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Dundee could have gone 2-0 up when Mark Ridgers failed to deal with Scott Allan’s corner which lead to a stramash in the box where Jack Hendry’s shot was saved by Ridgers and Mark O’Hara hit the post with the rebound before Donaldson scrambled the ball away.

Ridgers had to be at full stretch to deny Allan grabbing his second when he tipped the ball over the bar from his free kick 20 yards out.

Inverness failed to threaten an equaliser in the remaining minutes of the game as Dundee comfortably held on for victory.
