Edward Mountain MSP has today (Friday, February 9) written to the First Minister to highlight his concerns over the ongoing cancellation of operations at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
The Scottish Conservative MSP for the Highlands and Islands region said: "I am bitterly disappointed that for the second week in a row I am having to ask the First Minister to launch a full investigation into how this situation has arisen.
"The situation this week is even worse and the impact it is having on my constituents in the Highlands is completely unacceptable.
"I have written to ask how the people of the Highlands can possibly have any confidence in the NHS Highland health plan for the future which is based on a spoke and hub plan, where we are currently seeing a reduction of local hospital services, when clearly the hub is not functioning as it should.
"When I questioned the First Minister last week she was not prepared to commit to a full investigation, but interestingly neither did she state that she continues to have full confidence in the management of NHS Highland.
"There is now a serious question over the competence of the Board of NHS Highland and the situation cannot be allowed to continue."
He added that he was also awaiting a response from the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport to last week’s letter asking her to confirm the details of her conversations with NHS Highland prior to and during the period of cancelled operations.
