Newtonmore have the meanest defence in shinty
Newtonmore currently boost the meanest defence in senior shinty as Saturday’s 2-0 Mowi Premiership win over Lovat at The Eilan.
The latest shut-out means they have now gone 468 minutes without conceding a goal.
‘More’s Drew MacDonald returned after injury to take a place on the bench.
There was a minute’s silence ahead of throw up following the recent passing of ardent Newtonmore supporter Paul Mackintosh.
‘More dominated the game and they made the breakthrough a minute after the hour when Iain Robinson touched an Arron MacBean corner from the left to substitute Euan Dingwall who despatched the ball low by stand-in keeper Greg Matheson into the corner of the goal.

Matthew Sloss made sure of the win, finishing from inside the D with just 11 minutes remaining to secure a fifth successive victory.
The Blue and Whites left out youngster Joe Coyle who was in Ross County’s squad for their crucial Scottish Premiership play-off second leg being played against Livingston in Dingwall this evening.
However, his younger brother James Coyle debuted as a late substitute and did well.
‘More manager Peter Ross said: “We went with the same starting 12, with Drew MacDonald returning to take a place on the bench and we created chances in the first half without really threatening.
“The half-time message was to move the ball more quickly and we did that.
“It’s another clean sheet thanks to a good save by Kenny Ross but our defence was comfortable overall.
“Declan Brannan was excellent again at wing centre whilst Arron MacBean continues to work so hard for the team.”
Newtonmore are in Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup second round action on Saturday when they play Glenurquhart at The Eilan.
Meanwhile Newtonmore’s Strathdearn Cup quarter-final tie against Skye at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree was postponed following Paul Mackintosh’s passing.
The tie will be rescheduled with Saturday 7 June 2025 looking likely.
The Newtonmore seconds return to Mowi North Division 1 action on Saturday as they welcome league leaders Fort William to The Eilan.
