ONCE again, the rain in the West and the susceptibility of the Inveraray pitch to attract the wet stuff like a magnet put paid to Newtonmore's hopes of getting one of their three remaining games out of the way last weekend.

The boys of the Eilean were left without a game for the fourth successive Saturday.

With the shinty/hurling international on at the Bught Park this weekend, it will be six weekends by the time the all-important clash of the titans takes place at the Dell on November 7.

Meantime, Kingussie's game against Oban Camanachd did go ahead, but on a wet and slippery Mossfield Park, they slipped up, dropping a point to a determined Oban side who may yet manage to finish in fourth place. Craig MacMillan and Jonathan Will scored for Oban, whilst a Ronald Ross double accounted for Kingussie's scores.

The result leaves Kingussie back on top by a single goal, on the same points tally as Newtonmore, but having played a game more. In effect, even though Newtonmore still have three games to go, a win for the visitors at the Dell in a fortnight would leave them needing just a single point more from their last two games to secure their first Premier League title, whilst a win for Kingussie would likely bring it all down to goal difference.

Lochaber eased their relegation worries with a 4-2 win at Dalmally against relegated Glenorchy, who have now completed their season with just four points won. Grant MacPherson and Stuart Scott scored for Glenorchy, but doubles from both Shaun Nicolson and Lachlan Campbell gave Lochaber the precious points that leave them fourth from the bottom. Inveraray are two points behind them, with two games in hand, and Bute are a further two points behind, also with two games in hand after their fixture at Kyles fell victim to the weather.

In North Division 1, Lovat moved a step closer to a first-time return to the top flight with a 5-1 home victory over second-bottom club Inverness and now only need another victory from their final match against bottom club Lochcarron to pip Kilmallie to the title.

In mid table, Kinlochshiel and Beauly fought out a dour 1-1 draw with both goals coming in the final 10 minutes.

In North Division 2, champions Glenurquhart celebrated with a 3-0 victory down the A82 at Glengarry, whilst Kinlochshiel lifted themselves a point clearer of avoiding bottom spot with a goal-less draw at home to mid-table Lovat.

Kingussie ended their season with a 3-3 draw against Fort William at the Dell. Kingussie, who scored through Russell Jones, Michael Clark and Thomas Borthwick, currently lie in second spot, but may yet be overtaken by Fort William, whose scorers were James Cameron, Daniel Stewart and Stephen Stewart.

In the South, a goal-less draw between Kilmory and Glasgow Mid Argyll leaves Kilmory finishing in third place, with GMA just above them. All other South league games were postponed.
