KINGUSSIE and Newtonmore continued to march towards an end of season high noon which could see the Badenoch giants battle it out in a Premier League title decider.

The Kings took to the field first on Saturday in an early start at the Dell against Bute, and they made the best of starts when Kevin Thain lashed home from 12 yards in the first minute.

Ronald Ross added to Bute's woes in the 13th minute when he received a ball square inside the D and made no mistake.

A minute later and Queen in the Bute goal was forced to pull off a good reaction save when his own defender, Robert Ferguson, deflected a harmless ball goalwards and then from the rebound he saved a shot from Russell Dallas.

A period of scrappy play ensued with the home midfield bunching somewhat and not supplying much that was useful to the forward line.

But, in the 26th minute, Dallas forced a great save from Queen again and, six minutes later, a fierce shot from Ross tight to the bye line produced a splendid reaction foot save.

In the closing minutes of the half, Dallas was denied again by the keeper as the half ended with the home side 2-0 up.

In the first minute of the second period, the same player was unlucky with a 20 yard rocket that flew just wide.

Louis Munro was wide on the right side in the 50th minute.

Kingussie's Barry Dallas tangles with Bute's John McCallum as Ryan Borthwick (right) moves to anticipate a pass.

Ross put one on target in the 55th minute, but Queen saved and Ryan Borthwick was inches off-target with the rebound.

Kingussie were unusually slow to clear their lines and the game got bogged down again in midfield for a period midway through the half.

Robert Walker slotted home for the visitors with a good strike from 10 yards out on the right side to beat Craig Dawson in the Kingussie goal to make it 2-1 Three minutes later and a foul by Iain MacDonald on Ryan Borthwick as he charged down the left wing led to Dallas getting involved.

Referee Ronald Kennedy has no option but to issue MacDonald and Dallas with yellow cards and a couple of minutes later the latter was substituted with Paul Gow coming on in his place.

There remained the possibility that one mistake could lead to the Kings dropping a point but the game was finally made safe in the 77th minute.

Bute hero Queen made the latest in a match of good saves – this time from a shot by Gow. The rebound came to Ross and his effort looked to be going in anyway, but Fraser Munro was on hand to make sure with the final touch.

Thomas Borthwick came on for Ryan Borthwick – who had picked up a knee injury – in the 80th minute and he went on to lash home a superb injury time goal from an impossibly tight angle to give the final score a more convincing look at 4-1.
