NEWTONMORE took to the field at the Eilan against Inveraray and looked convincing straight from the off.

Danny MacRae opened his account on the quarter hour mark with a shot from 10 yards out.

The home side was dominating, but it was not until the 23rd minute that the next shot on goal came, this time a Steven MacDonald rocket that flew just over.

Four minutes later, David Cheyne intercepted a free hit 35 yards out on the wide right, and, taking his time, took aim, and blasted an unstoppable rocket high into the net for 2-0.

Two minutes later, and another Cheyne shot was parried onto the post and minute after that MacDonald converted a solo run in fine style for Newtonmore's third.

Into the second period, with Newtonmore rampant, Cheyne was unlucky with a shot that hit the side netting.

MacRae was similarly denied after a dazzling run through on goal.

But Cheyne made it 4-0 on the hour mark with a fierce ground shot from the right side and, two minutes later, completed his hat-trick from square in front of goal.

A string of close shaves and good saves followed, and Cheyne also hit the post with a scorching shot.

In the 72nd minute, MacRae beat the keeper to a loose ball to slot home for 6-0.

In a rare break from defence, Inveraray forced a save out of Michael Ritchie as the Blue and Whites momentarily took their foot off the accelerator.

However, it was only a brief respite for Inveraray and in the 85th minute, a superb long ball led to MacRae's third goal and 'More's seventh.

With a couple of minutes to go, Evan Menzies added his name to the scoresheet as he beat the keeper to the ball to slot home for a resounding win in Newtonmore's final home game of the season.

Apart from a second team fixture against Skye, there is a six week period without games, so the club are looking to switch the match to a neutral venue with a view to undertaking some much needed repair work around both goalmouths.
