KINGUSSIE'S Ronald Ross was delighted after grabbing his first ever haul of ten goals in a top-flight match – and hopes that it could boost his side's Premier League title chances.

Ross bagged six goals before the break against relegated Glenorchy at the Dell on Saturday and nicked two more in the dying minutes to reach double figures.

The Kings won 13-0 to give their goal difference a huge lift – putting them ahead of Newtonmore by one goal should the title race against their neighbours go right to the wire.

Ross said: "I have had heaps of games where I have scored eight times but never ten. In fact, before Saturday I didn't think it was possible.

"You normally go through a spell in a game where you have been up against three or four different markers and you go a bit stale and fail to push on.

"It happened at the start of the second half on Saturday, but then I scored just at the right time and that got things going again."

He added: "I have scored 11 goals in a second team match before, but never 10 in the Premier League so to do it is another milestone.

"If I'm honest it could have been a lot more but for their keeper – his reflexes were top-notch by the end of the game and he made some great saves."

Ross was put back in his customary position at the sharp end by manager Jimmy Gow for Saturday's game and it did not take him long to get onto the scoresheet.

He opened his account in the seventh minute and 20 minutes later Ross had completed his hat-trick. By half time, he had a second hat-trick under his belt as Glenorchy collapsed under the sheer power of the Kingussie strike force.

Six nil down at the turn but there was to be no respite as the Kings, determined to show that they were by no means a spent force, piled on yet more pressure.

In generous mood, Ross let young Ryan Borthwick in on the act with a goal in the 59th minute before adding to his own tally six minutes later.

Kevin Thain added number nine in the 68th minute, then Ross put the Kings ten up in the 74th.

Thain added number 11 five minutes later, then, just for good measure, Ross added numbers 12 and 13 in the 85th and 88th minute.

Ross is now in the mid seventies in the goal stakes – although he confessed he does not know exactly how many – and could be on for breaking his record haul of 95 goals in a season.

He hopes that Saturday's crushing win will give his side a fillip after what has been a disappointing month by their own high standards.

"To get knocked out of the Scottish by Kyles 4-3 after we were ahead in the original fixture was hard to take," he admitted.

"We've had a bad month, so Saturday has given everyone connected with the club a boost. Although the opposition was not the best, they are still a Premier League side and had to be disposed of."
