KINGUSSIE won their Premier League match at Dalmally against Glenorchy thanks to Ronald Ross.

The Kings star scored all his side's goals in a 3-1 win, with Keiran Mackay netting for Glenorchy.

With Glenurquhart not playing, the result took the Kings ahead of the Glen on goal difference, but the real surprise of the day was that the wheels well and truly fell off the Fort William challenge with a shock 2-3 defeat at home at the hands of Oban Camanachd, who netted through Jonathan Will, Scott McMillan and Ian Campbell.

Bryan Simpson and John MacDonald scored for the home side. Spurning the chance to overtake Glenurquhart at the top of the table, Fort William are now a point behind new leaders, Kingussie, on top for the first time this season, and they have two games in hand.

Fort have now lost three matches in succession, and their chances of the title have all but gone.

Newtonmore were out of action at the weekend due to the Newtonmore Highland Games, and remain in fourth spot, two points behind the leaders with a game in hand. Inveraray, meanwhile, followed up a midweek 5-3 win at Bute with a 4-1 home win against Kyles Athletic to pull themselves clear of the relegation zone.

Duncan Kerr had given Kyles the lead in just eight minutes, but Garry Macpherson levelled on the 27th minute to leave honours even at the turn. Macpherson made it a double five minutes into the second period, then a double from Scott Robertson sealed the points for Inveraray.

In the remaining Premier tie, Lochaber and Bute shared the points in a goalless draw at Spean Bridge.

The coming weekend sees no game for either Newtonmore or Kingussie in the Premier League, and both second strings playing away from home as, for the second week in succession, not a single shinty match is scheduled to take place in Badenoch – not the first time that this 'black hole' has appeared in August.
