BADENOCH and Strathspey ladies win on Sunday over Strathglass means they only need to pick up three points from as many games to retain their North Division Two title.

B&S travelled to Cannich for their crucial clash with Strathglass and were expecting a tough encounter having only narrowly won 2-1 at The Dell in May earlier in the season.

But they produced their best performance of the season at Cannich to run out 11-0 victors.

The visitors hit top form and gave Strathglass a torrid time for the entire hour. The win means that B&S are now in a commanding position at the top of division two with just the few matches remaining.

The opening period was evenly matched with no clear chance at either end until the 16th minute, when the breakthrough came.

B&S captain Erin McNiven struck a low drive inside the keeper's right hand post to give the visitors the lead.

It was one of the goals of the game, and from then on the Strathglass keeper, former-International captain, Gillian Currie, was under constant pressure.

The visitor's midfield took control of the game and created many chances.

The second goal came from a corner with Karen Hamilton stopping the ball at the back of the box before slamming it in to the roof of the net.

Jane Nicol then made it 3-0 from 12 yards out, and Hamilton scored two more from close range to give B&S a 5-0 half-time lead.

Lindsay Deans quickly made it 6-0 after the interval with a firmly struck low drive from 20 yards.

Strathglass created a couple of chances through Lucy Macleod which narrowly went over the bar, but the remainder of the match saw continued pressure on the home side's goal.

Kirsty Deans found her scoring touch and notched up a hat-trick, and then Hamilton and Nicol added to their tally before the final whistle.

Coach John Robertson said: "Sunday was possibly the team's best performance yet and certainly the best this season. They travelled to Cannich with four regular players unavailable, and showed a real determination to win the points."

There is now a seven week summer break in the women's shinty calendar. The next B&S match is the Caledonian Challenge Cup semi-final on August 16.
