In the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup semi-final, Oban Camanachd saw off Kyles Athletic's challenge by the same scoreline thanks to Ian MacMillan in 40 minutes and Scott MacMillan in the 55th minute. Also settled at the weekend were ties in the second round of the Strathdearn Cup with Kingussie securing a convincing 6-0 win at Lochbroom despite losing David Borthwick who was sent off in just the 12th minute. Newtonmore won through 5-2 at Strathglass and there were big wins too for Lovat, 6-1 at Kinlochshiel and Fort William, 7-0 at Caberfeidh. Kincraig finally lost a cup match, going down 5-0 away at Beauly and there were narrower wins, all by a single goal, for Glengarry at Aberdeen, Kilmallie at Boleskine and Lochcarron at Lochaber. Newtonmore face Lochcarron away in the next round whilst Kingussie have a home draw against Glengarry. There were two Premier League matches played at the weekend. Glen Urquhart move up to fifth spot after a 6-1 home demolition of Glenorchy which included a Billy Urquhart hat-trick whilst Lochaber are now in sixth place after a 3-1 victory over Inveraray. The premier league is now looking decidedly odd, with Inveraray, who usually find themselves with few early season games actuyally having played eight times yet second bottom on only three points. Meanwhile Newtonmore remain unbeaten in the league but are in lowly seventh spot having only played four games. 'More have no first team game this coming weekend, the big event instead being Norman Campbell's wedding. |
