FORT William opened up a gap at the top of the Premier League with a narrow 1-0 win over Glen Urquhart as the two Badenoch giants sat out the weekend.

Kingussie had no fixture and Newtonmore’s game at Bute was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.

Chris Bamber scored the only goal of the game to leave Fort two points clear of Oban Camanachd, who also took full advantage to usurp second spot from Kyles Athletic with a 3-1 win at Mossfield Park.

Kyles opened the scoring through Duncan Kerr but Oban were back on level terms through Scott MacMillan 15 minutes later, and in front through Andrew MacCuish.

Aiden MacIntyre sealed the win with Oban’s third five minutes after the restart.

In the other Premier League tie, Lochaber move into sixth spot after a 1-0 win over Glenorchy.

In North Division 1, Inverness and Lovat fought out a goalless draw, while in South 1, Lochside defeated Tayforth 5-2 in Perth.

Newtonmore picked up their second win of the season in North 2 with a 3-2 home win over Kinlochshiel, though the homesters created far more chances than the scoreline suggests.

Mark MacDonald netted twice for Newtonmore and Chris Sellar scored the third against goals from MacRae and Fraser for Kinlochshiel.

The margin could have been far greater had the ’More forwards had a little more luck – especially in the first half. ’Shiel always battled bravely, and indeed could actually have levelled the tie if Douglas Gray in the Newtonmore goal had not pulled off a magnificent stick save high above his head after a rocket from MacRae.

Glen Urquhart recorded a 2-1 home win over Kingussie to stay in top spot, three points clear of Fort William. David Smart and Ben Hosie gave the Glen a 2-0 half time lead and Rory Borthwick pulled one back for the Kings.

Newtonmore’s Drew MacDonald (left) tries to find a way through a melee of Kinlochshiel defenders as Mark MacDonald (right) looks on.

Skye held Glengarry to a 2-2 draw in Portree, while first half goals from Craig MacPhee and Steven MacAllister gave Kilmallie a 2-0 home win over Lovat.

In South 2, Aberdour demolished Ballachulish 7-0 with a hat-trick from Alex Mitchell and a double from Doug Newsome.

Aberdour’s Alasdair Shaw and Ballachulish’s Robbie Nelson were sent off.

Strachur go top of the division, replacing Kyles, after a 3-1 home win over the Tighnabruaich side. Kyles had taken the lead a minute before half time through Gus Finlayson but Alasdair Mirlees equalised on the half time whistle.

Second half goals from Kevin Nairn and Andrew Robertson sealed the win.

In a veritable goal fest in North Division 3, 33 were scored in five games.

Aberdeen University defeated Ardnamurchan 4-0; Beauly won against Strathglass 7-1 with four goals from Terry MacAllister; Lochaber beat Lochcarron 9-0, with four from Stewart Callison; and Lochbroom secured a 4-0 win over Inverness 4-0.

Kincraig are still to get off the mark after going down 6-2 at Boleskine.

A Lewis Smith hat-trick in the 46th, 47th and 48th minutes did the worst of the damage for Boleskine after goals in the first half from John Clark and Ian Grant had given the Badenoch side a promising half time lead.
