AVIEMORE RBL are back at the top of the David Ritchie & Sons Strathspey and Badenoch Welfare Football League after a 2-0 win away at Carrbridge, who were leaders going to the game.

Getting the goals in the second half were Kevin Partridge and Colin Campbell to send the Royal British Legion team a point clear. It was another night of high drama with the top three sides in the SBWFA League all swapping places following Tuesday's fixtures.

The Carrbridge-RBL clash was the proverbial "six pointer" as the top two sides in the SBWFA League met head-on for the first time since their 1-1 draw on May 20.

A win for Carrbridge would have seen them stretch their lead over RBL to four points, but a win for the visitors would see them leapfrog into pole position for the second time in two weeks.

The first half was a midfield battle as both sides probed the opposing defence to find any chinks but few chances were created.

Some unconventional net-minding by RBL keeper Chris Miller did manage to provide the visiting supporters with a few hair-raising moments, but an opening goal proved elusive as the sides went in at half-time tied at 0-0.

However it was an entirely different second half as RBL emerged the dominant side in the opening salvoes.

A period of intense pressure was rewarded in the 55th minute with a goal from Kevin Partridge as the ball found him through a ruck of players six yards out to tap home.

And RBL should have doubled their lead shortly after as Joe Hardy's crossed bounced back off the bar to a waiting Sean Scullion, however, he somehow found the side-netting with the open goal beckoning.

Tempers became frayed as Carrbridge battled to grab the vital equaliser, but the experienced head of referee Billy Baxter kept a lid on matters despite Ross McMonagle, Dougie Edwards and Gary McGeoch receiving yellow cards for the home team.

Carrbridge began to come back into the game and both Robertson and McGeoch went tantalisingly close.

However, RBL delivered a sucker punch in the final minute when a smart break upfield found Campbell out on the right wing and he rifled home the winner via the post.

Tomatin have now moved up into second place one point behind RBL after a comfortable 4-0 win against Aviemore Thistle. Getting on the scoresheet were Kenny MacDonald (15), Darren Dean (27 & 40) and Sean Johnstone (60).

In a high-scoring match, Cromdale emerged 5-3 winners away at Tomatin United thanks to a double from Ian Anderson and goals from Gary Gray, Fraser Tulloch and Gavin Green. The counters for Tomatin United came through Daryl Henderson, Malcolm Mathieson and Edwin Macdonald.

Results:

Aviemore Thistle 0, Tomatin 4; Tomatin United 3, Cromdale 5; Carrbridge 0, RBL 2.

League table:

RBL 22pts; Tomatin 21; Carrbridge 20; Cromdale 15; Aviemore Thistle 7; Tomatin United 2.
