Tomatin, who were in third place going into the match, maintained their title hopes with a 2-1 win over league leaders, RBL Aviemore, on Tuesday. The game started at a high tempo with both teams having their fair share of possession. However, there was no cutting edge in front of goal and the score remained goalless until the 20th minute when a goalkeeping blunder handed RBL the initiative. Stuart Scullion's lobbed through-ball was allowed to run onto home keeper Robert Flett, but he ball rolled under his feet and into the back of the net. Tomatin created a few chances late on in the half but went in at half-time one goal down. However, five minutes into the second half they were back on level terms when a neat pass over the RBL defence sent young Ally Forbes through on goal and the winger took his chance well. There were a couple of good saves from the Tomatin keeper and a disallowed goal from the home side. Five minutes from the end, a long ball out of defence was flicked into the path of Darren Dean, who took a touch and fired the ball home under the on-rushing RBL keeper to secure a precious lead. Tomatin held out the last few minutes, and earned all three points, to push them within two points of top place Carrbridge. * CARRBRIDGE went into their game smarting from last week's shock 5-1 hammering by Aviemore Thistle, which cost them the top spot in the league. This may also have given United a pre-match boost, especially when considering the 2-2 draw the last time the two teams met in the league which they could easily have won. However, the home side need not have worried as they eventually ran out comfortable 4-0 winners. Rose opened the scoring with a powerful low drive into the bottom corner, which was closely followed by a Marcus Forrest lob on 25 minutes. Rose then grabbed his second 10 minutes from the interval straight from a free kick to take Carrbridge into half time 3-0 up. It was a more open game in the second half but Carrbridge's Robertson duly found the net 15 minutes from time to secure victory and help his side reclaim top spot in the SBWL table. * DESPITE the Jags' impressive away win over leaders Carrbridge last week, they were still the underdogs as Cromdale visited Aviemore. The last time the two clubs met, Cromdale ended victorious and, sadly, for Thistle this was to be the case again. A goal from Ian Anderson plus a Scott Smith hat-trick were enough to see Cromdale head back north with all three points, while Fraser Munro provided Aviemore's consolation. |
