THERE are new leaders at the top of the David Ritchie & Sons Badenoch and Strathspey Welfare League with RBL Aviemore overhauling Carrbridge.

It was another evening of shocks and goals last Tuesday, when the eighth round of games in this year's campaign took place.

Carrbridge started the night one point clear of RBL but suffered a 5-1 hammering at home by Aviemore Thistle.

The visitors defied the form book right from the off and dominated for most of the first half. Craig Ireland and Cammy Gaff caused the Carrbridge defence all sorts of problems.

Despite squandering several chances, Aviemore still went in at half time 3-0 up thanks to goals from Gaff, Ireland and Cruickshank.

An accidental collision just before the interval saw Thistle defender Alan Cresswell carried off with bad ligament damage and it is now doubtful if he will feature again this season.

A strike from Gary McGeoch gave Carrbridge some hope, but Thistle stepped up a gear and further goals from Gaff and Frazer Munro finished the game off.

RBL took full advantage of Carrbridge's shock defeat by crushing bottom side Tomatin United 8-3 and leap-frogging into pole position in the table.

It was an open game with both sides being fully committed, but a Scullion hat-trick, two from Partridge, one apiece from Campbell and Alan Docherty plus a United own goal were too much for the visitors on the night.

The Sky Blues, to their credit, kept trying right up to the final whistle. On target for United were Martin Kennedy, Trialist and Edwin MacDonald with a penalty.

Tomatin started their game against Cromdale with only eight men due to late arrivals from several players through work commitments. Despite being a man short they broke the deadlock with a trademark Peter Fraser goal. He ran onto a pass and shot from long range past a helpless Cromdale keeper.

The home side finally got back to full strength with 11 players and came close to doubling the lead, thwarted only by some poor finishing.

Cromdale took this as a wake up call and came into the game, enjoying some good possession and making quick passes in the midfield to create space, but they lacked any penetration.

Both teams went into the break fairly even with Tomatin grateful for Fraser's earlier strike.

Cromdale wasted little time in grabbing an equaliser after the interval. Having won a free kick some 25 yards out, Tomatin were still organising their wall when the ball was passed to the unmarked Scott Smith who rifled a shot into the top corner.

With only five minutes left on the clock, an in-swinging Tomatin corner was met by Kenny MacDonald who rose highest from a cluster of players to bullet a header into the back of the net and claim all three points for the home side.
