A home in the Aviemore area is in the running for the prestigious TV title of Scotland’s Home of the Year.

In next week’s episode of the popular BBC Scotland series, judges Anna Campbell-Jones, Banjo Beale and Danny Campbell head to the Highlands and Islands visiting three unique properties in their latest search for their favourite home.

The trio must choose between the historic fishing lodge in the strath, a self-build home on the Isle of Lewis and a converted croft house, also on the island.

Earth House in the Aviemore area - which dates back to the 18th Century and belongs to Dianne Dain and Salem Avan - will feature in this Monday night’s show.

When the couple bought the property in 2016 it was in a neglected state and and they have brought it back to life.

A BBC Scotland spokeswoman said: “This Highland sanctuary reflects the serenity of its surroundings as well as providing a haven for visiting family.

“Amongst its many features, Earth House includes a shower turret and a bathroom with a view.”

Next up is a modern self-build near Stornoway. Achnagairn House is home to David and Alison, their daughters Ava Grace and Eva Rose and Mulberry the chihuahua.

The couple designed their dream home with their daughters and family life in mind, creating a symmetrical abode with sustainability at its heart.

Staying on the Isle of Lewis, the final contender is an early 1900s croft house.

Home to Tina, Newlands Croft House had been lying empty before she lovingly restored and extended it to make the most of the breathtaking views out to sea.

The vision of Tina and her late husband Norman, Newlands Croft House is environmentally considerate and the interiors are filled with second hand finds and upcycled furniture.

Scoring the three homes on architectural merit, distinctive design and personal style, as ever the judges must decide which of the three properties will represent the region in the grand final at Glasgow’s House for an Art Lover.

As ever the judges will be giving each property their own personal score out of 10 with the home with the highest total progressing.

Scotland’s Home of the Year - now in its sixth series - is on BBC 1 Scotland this Monday at 8.30pm and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
