A CAR with a happy family aboard had been struck by a bus. Three adults were killed and two injured. There was one uninjured survivor - a five-month-old baby. That was in 1952.

I WAS given a book by my son-in-law for Fathers' Day. I started to read it, then left it on the table in the living-room because I felt sure that if I read on, my feelings would be caught up in it more than I wanted them to be.

ON television the other day I came across a programme devoted to finding ways of saving cash at a time when most of us feel we have to pull in our belts and save some money where we can. One of the ways they suggested was keeping poultry. I wonder if they were right.
