120 soldiers from 20th Armoured Brigade including 3 Scots (Blackwatch) were welcomed home by Danny Alexander, MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey.

Marching on the House of Commons to celebrate their return from duty in Afghanistan, 20 Brigade enjoyed a brief reception at Terrace Marquee. Following the welcome home march, Mr Alexander presented the service men and women with 120 whisky miniatures, kindly donated by Dalwhinnie Distillery.

The Brigade returned in April from a seven month tour where they lost 23 of their comrades. The growing tradition is a way for the nation’s representatives to say ‘Thank You’ to all the servicemen and women who give so much on the frontline.

Mr Alexander said: “We should all be very proud of the work our service men and women do for our country. It has been a privilege to welcome home the soldiers from Twenty Brigade today; and a great opportunity to show our appreciation for all their efforts.

“In particular, on behalf of the Highlands, I would like to thank and welcome home the members of Blackwatch, who have worked tirelessly to help defend our country and train their Afghan colleagues over the last seven months.”
