A major electrical fault shut Aviemore Primary School and nursery today.

As well as the 252-pupil school, the Highlife gym and library were also closed.

The school said it had no landlines or internet to inform parents.

A spokeswoman for Highland Council said parents should check https://www.highland.gov.uk/schoolclosures to see when it would re-open.

Alternatively they could phone 0800 564 2272 to get the latest pre-recorded message by inserting the school's pin number of 041460.

The council later said that power could be returned by 2pm today.

SSE told the local authority: “We had an issue this morning with a fuse blowing at the local substation.

"The engineers are back out in the area now and investigating the cause of the fault.

"We are expecting to have the power back on by 2pm.”
